EROHAN Foundation is a leading health care NGO in MP, dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged communities across India’s 2nd largest state Madhya Pradesh. We are on mission to uplift those who are often overlooked, particularly in remote and tribal areas.
Through our comprehensive health initiatives, we strive to ensure that everyone has access to essential healthcare services, empowering them to lead healthier lives.
Understanding the Health Challenges in Madhya Pradesh
Due to vast pollution (approximately 7.26 crore) and its large demographic geography, Madhya Pradesh faces significant public health challenges. These include high rates of malnutrition, with around 1.30 lakh malnourished children in MP as per the Mukhyamantri Bal Arogya Samvardhan Program. Additionally, maternal and child mortality rates are concerning, with a maternal mortality rate (MMR) of 173 per 100,000 live births (2018-2020) and an infant mortality rate (IMR) of 48 per 1,000 live births (2020). The state also experiences a prevalence of diseases such as sickle cell anemia and diabetes.
These issues are exacerbated by factors such as poverty, lack of education, and limited access to healthcare facilities. As a registered NGO in Madhya Pradesh, India, we understand these local conditions and aim to address them through targeted programs.
Our Health Initiatives
I. Preventive Care and Health Awareness
Our approach strongly emphasizes preventive care. We truly believe that health education plays a crucial role in guiding communities toward a healthier way of living. Our initiatives include:
- Health Awareness Workshops: We conduct community gatherings in several villages of Madhya Pradesh to educate communities about nutrition, sanitation, and the importance of regular health check-ups. These discussions and awareness about health related topics empower people living in villages and tribal communities with knowledge that can lead to healthier choices.
- Screening Camps: We organize screening camps for diseases like sickle cell anemia, Non-Communicable Diseases, etc. to provide early detection and intervention. By identifying health issues early, we can help individuals receive the treatment they need before conditions worsen.
II. Addressing Malnutrition
Malnutrition is a pressing issue in Madhya Pradesh, particularly among children and pregnant women. Our foundation runs programs focused on combating malnutrition through:
- Nutrition Support Initiatives: We provide nutritional supplements and education to families in need. Our team works closely with Anganwadi workers to ensure that children and mothers receive the necessary nutrients for healthy development.
- Nutrition Fulfillment from Local Produces: To address malnutrition effectively, we utilize food fortification techniques with locally grown crops. We focus on educating communities about the nutritional benefits of local crops and how they can be incorporated into their daily diets. We highlight the importance of crops such as sorghum, finger millet, and various legumes that are rich in essential vitamins and minerals. By promoting the use of these local resources, we aim to improve nutrition in a cost-effective manner.
III. Supporting Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health
We recognize the importance of maternal, child as well as adolescent health in building a healthier future of Madhya Pradesh. Our efforts in this area include:
- Prenatal and Postnatal Care: We provide care and support for pregnant women and lactating mothers, ensuring they receive regular check-ups and necessary medical attention. This initiative aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates by addressing health issues early and providing essential guidance throughout pregnancy and after childbirth.
- Child Health Initiatives: Our foundation is committed to enhancing child health by offering immunization programs and regular health check-ups for children. We educate parents on nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention to ensure children grow healthy and strong. By addressing these critical areas, we aim to reduce childhood illnesses and improve overall well-being.
- Adolescent Health Programs: Understanding that health education is essential during adolescence, we offer workshops for young people, focusing on reproductive health, nutrition, and mental well-being. This ensures that the next generation is equipped to make informed health choices, promoting a culture of health awareness and self-care among adolescents.
IV. Empowering Healthcare Workers
Here at EROHAN Foundation, we’re committed to empowering healthcare workers, as we believe this is essential for sustainable change. That’s why we work together with local health authorities to:
- Train Frontline Workers: We provide training to Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and other healthcare professionals, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver quality care in their communities.
- Resource Provision: We supply healthcare workers with essential tools and resources to enhance their ability to serve effectively. By supporting those on the front lines, we improve the overall healthcare system in Madhya Pradesh.
Our Collaboration for the Betterment of Madhya Pradesh
Collaboration is key to creating a lasting impact. EROHAN Foundation works in partnership with various government bodies, including the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
